South Korea: Government Offers Mini-Car Concessions Many Koreans have a nickname for mini-cars, called “national car,” meaning cars with a displacement below 0.8 liters. After the Asian financial crisis, mini-cars in South Korea had annual sales of 150,000 units, accounting for 27.6% of the entire car sales. Now, no matter on the highway, or in the capital of Seoul’s most bustling Center Avenue, everywhere you can see the “national car” figure. South Korea is also a car power, with an average of 4 cars per car. The South Korean government believes that increasing the proportion of mini-cars will help to save energy, improve road utilization, reduce waste emissions, and urban transport will also become smooth.
