民间儒学是儒学灵根再植、重返社会人间的文化思想形态,民间儒学,也可以理解为在民间、在日常生活世界里的儒学,或民间办儒学,即民间组织推动的儒学。现代儒学既包括乡村儒学的重振,又包括城市儒学的建设,即是使中国文化的基本做人做事之正道,即儒家仁义之道,透过广大城乡的家庭、学校、社区、企业、机关等现代公民社会的组织形式,通过冠婚丧祭之家礼等宗教性的仪式,在每个国民的心中扎根。民间儒学是多样的,它与各宗教的活动,包括外来宗教的传教活动形成健康的互动,保持文化的主体性与生态平衡。儒家学者要眼中有民,努力到民间去,弘扬儒学,把会议儒学、书本儒学转化为民间儒学、生命儒学。
