原产于北美的食蚊鱼,是一种卵胎生热带性小型鱼。据资料报道:一说是1927年由马尼拉引入上海,另一说是1935年由国外引进沪、抗一带。目前在广东、广西的天然水体中均有生长。笔者于1987年6月在南昌县莲塘水产场亲鱼池塘发现有大量食蚊鱼。但在我省未有过记载,究属引入还是当地原产?尚难查明。据笔者对近万尾食蚊鱼的观察和千余尾鱼的标本测定,以及对所收集的资料整理报道如下:
The mosquito fish native to North America is an ovoid, tropical, small fish.
