2004年夏天,城市规划设计专家徐道钫关于恢复使用、发展上海有轨电车的新闻披载于上海不少报刊,从而使"有轨电车"与天气一样,一下子热了起来.上了年纪的上海人对有轨电车并不陌生.回眸历史,上海于1908年3月5日诞生第一条有轨电车以来,1946年上海的有轨电车发展达到了顶峰,拥有有轨电车运行线路12条,运先后将绝大多数城市的有轨电车线路拆除,用无轨电车、公共汽车等其它交通工具取代.至80年代初,法国有轨电车仅在马赛、圣艾蒂安、里尔等三个城市幸存.
