In order to study the influence of dietary factors on the risk of coronary heart disease among all Christians in California, the authors conducted a group study from 1976 to 1982. The number of Christians who were identified in the 1974 census was 59,081 and they were ≥25 years old. A total of 26,473 non-Hispanic white Americans with a history of heart disease and diabetes who responded to the 1976 Lifestyle Questionnaire were included in the study and 97% of participants completed the follow-up. Survey respondents were asked to fill in questionnaires and respond to their consumption of 65 different foods, beverages and vitamin supplements. There were 8 levels ranging from “no consumption” to “more than once daily”. Gather information on vegetarians, height, weight, smoking, blood pressure, and exercise habits.
