Objective: To observe the changes of circadian blood pressure during convalescence in elderly patients with cerebral infarction and the possible influencing factors. Methods: The changes of diurnal blood pressure in 45 elderly patients with hemispheric infarction were measured by 24-hour blood pressure monitor and compared with those of non-cerebral infarction patients with similar age, sex and blood pressure. Results: The average systolic and diastolic blood pressure in convalescence of elderly patients with cerebral infarction had no significant difference compared with the control group, but the difference of day and night systolic pressure was less than that of the control group (P <0.05) The diurnal and systolic blood pressure (P <0.01), diurnal and systolic blood pressure (P <0. 05) and diurnal diastolic pressure (P <0. 05) were significantly lower than those of the control group. CONCLUSIONS: Circadian blood pressure changes during the convalescence of patients with a history of hypertension are suggestive of abnormalities.
