木刻艺术在中国有着悠久的历史,从汉代石刻画像起源,到宋元明清各代,形式、内容、技法等均有不同表现。19世纪末,随着西洋印刷术输入中国,木刻在社会文化中的作用与影响逐渐减弱。作为民族文化载体之一,书籍插图的精英性,各种年画、连环画的民间性,都是木刻艺术以多种形式体现出的中国文化特质。20世纪二三十年代,鲁迅倾力推介木刻艺术,尤其将西方木刻版画引进中国,使木刻艺术在20世纪中国政治文化发展中产生了较大影
Woodcut has a long history in China. From the origins of the stone carvings in the Han Dynasty to the generations of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, the forms, contents, techniques and so on all have different performances. At the end of the 19th century, with the importation of Western typography into China, the role and influence of woodcut in social culture gradually weakened. As one of the carriers of national culture, the elitism of book illustrations, various New Year pictures, and the non-governmental nature of comic books are all the characteristics of Chinese culture embodied by woodcut in various forms. In the 1920s and 1930s, Lu Xun endeavored to promote woodcut art, especially the introduction of western woodcut prints into China, so that woodcut art produced a large shadow in the development of Chinese political culture in the 20th century
