杨守敬(1839～1915)湖北宜都陆城镇人,字敬斋,同治元年(1862)中举,同治四年(1865)考取景山宫学教习,1874年考取国史馆誊录。1880年至1884年任驻日钦使随员,归国后先后任黄冈教谕、两湖书院教习、勤成(后更为存古)学堂总教长。1909年被举为礼部顾问官,次年兼聘为湖北通志局纂修。1915年1月9日,杨无疾而终,逝于北京,终年76岁。杨守敬逝世后,民国政府派专车
