概指名词在以往研究中被证实具有丰富的语篇构建和评价功能。然而,以往研究及英语教学实践大多将这两类功能分而治之,鲜有综合一体的探索。本研究基于中国学者学术英语语料库,探索25个高频概指名词与局部文本要素共选形成的双重功能,即评价功能和语篇组织功能。在小句关系路径下,本研究发现,概指名词实施的231例评价行为中有142例(约61.5%)出现在“情景—评价—依据”、“概述—具体”和“问题—解决”等语篇型式中,成为其必要组成部分。本文揭示,概指名词的局部文本功能往往一身二任,同时实现评价功能和语篇组织功能,二者相互交织、嵌套,使语篇成为有机整体。研究发现对学术英语教学提供了丰富启示。
Proper nouns in the past study has been confirmed with rich text building and evaluation functions. However, most of the past researches and English teaching practices divide these two types of functions into two parts, with few integrated exploration. Based on Chinese scholars’ academic English corpus, this study explores the dual functions of selecting and combining 25 high-frequency generic nouns and local text elements, namely, the evaluation function and the textual organization function. In the path of clauses, we found that 142 (61.5%) of the 231 evaluations performed by generic nouns appeared in “Scenario-Evaluation-Based”, “Overview-Specific” and “ ”Problem - solve" and other text patterns, as an integral part of it. This paper reveals that the local text functions of nouns tend to be one of two functions at the same time, at the same time, the functions of evaluation and discourse organization are realized. The two are intertwined and nested, making the discourse an organic whole. The findings have provided a wealth of inspiration for academic English teaching.
