Li in 1949 and Rigas in 1955 had successively extracted a substance capable of agglutinating red blood cells from plant bean seeds, called Phytohemagglutinin (PHA). 1963 Aub first pointed out that tumor cells are more likely to be agglutinated by lectins than normal cells. Future studies have shown that PHA’s cohesion to cancer cells is 12 times that of normal cells.
