Toray started developing nanotechnology for polymer electrolyte membranes. This membrane combines low methanol permeability and good proton conductivity. It is effective for direct methanol oxidation of methanol (DMFC). DMFC is a next-generation new energy source for mobile devices such as laptops and mobile phones that do not require hydrogen modifiers and make mobile devices more compact.
