In normal pregnancy, the smooth implantation and growth of the embryo requires the induction of a state of immune tolerance at the maternal-fetal interface. Once this state is broken, it will cause maternal rejection of the embryo, resulting in a variety of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Regulatory T cells (Treg) is the key to maintain this tolerance state, it can inhibit the immune effect through a variety of ways to induce decidual immune tolerance. At the same time, Treg cells and Th17 cells mutual restraint, tend to balance, making the decidua part of both have a certain ability to resist external infection, but also to avoid the fetus by the mother’s immune system rejection. This article aims to review the characteristics of Th17 and Treg and their interactions during pregnancy.
