无论过去还是现在,服装的形成都诠释着一个国家或地区的发展,像社会的变迁、文化的发展以及环境的改变等。日本,一个典型的东方国家,从地域特征、文化背景等多方面都透露出东方的神秘气息;在欧洲,那里的人们以他们浪漫的心态和开放的思想看待世界,中西方不同的认识方式深深影响了本民族服装发展的道路。很长一段时间以来,日本文化持续发展,其表现出的各种特征与中国传统文化以及西方世界有着很大的差异。著名的美国社会学家摩尔曾在《Principia Ethica》中提到:“日本文化在众多宏伟的文化中更加神秘、奇妙和富有传奇色彩。”
