U.S. scientists say they may develop a tiny spy plane within three years. This aircraft, known as a “miniature bird,” has a wingspan of 15 centimeters and weighs less than 100 grams. The machine carries a miniature camera that can be used to perform reconnaissance missions and to find survivors in fire or in seismic zones. At present, researchers are working on navigation systems, the appropriate engine and the appearance of the aircraft. Although some models of “miniature birds” will use propellers, MIT researchers are still developing a miniature turbojet engine.
