万家寨水利枢纽地处黄河北干流托龙段峡谷内, 因河水含沙量大、自然条件恶劣, 给机电设计提出了许多需要特殊处理的课题。枢纽电站于 1993 年 7 月通过了初步设计审查, 确定总装机容量为 1 080 M W (6×180 M W ), 并作为主力调峰电站和按少人值班方式运行。1996 年 3 月采用招投标方式, 6 台主机分别由 3 家公司制造和配套; 电气主接线采用单元接线方式 (发电机—主变侧); 自动监控采用先进的开放式计算机监控系统; 金属结构总工程量为 8 366 t。在整个电站的机电设计和设备选型中, 都充分考虑了黄河多泥沙的特点及初步设计中提出的技术要求, 与国内其他水电站的设计相比具有较多的特点。
The Wanjiazhai Water Control Project is located in the Torong Gorge of the Yellow River North Mainstream. Due to its high sediment concentration and poor natural conditions, the Wanjiazhai Water Control Project has proposed many issues requiring special treatment for the mechanical and electrical design.
