In order to increase the volatile oil content in the distillate, a double distillation method is generally adopted, and a secondary four-fold distillation method is common, but this method may still not meet the quality requirements. Take Bupleurum injection as an example, its content standard is the colorimetric determination of absorbance 0.303 under certain conditions, and its second quadruple amount of heavy distillate colorimetric determination of absorbance is about 0.105, far from meeting the content requirements. In order to increase the volatile oil content of Bupleurum diffusate, the “Chinese Herbal Medicine” in the 7th period of 1978 introduced the promotion of four times the amount of distillation.
