Read Fang’s novella “White Fog”, actually think of Sartre’s comments on Giacometti. Giacometti was one of the most controversial sculptors in the world in the 1940s. He is infatuated with nothingness, so using sculpture and painting to express the distance between people, to express the loss of people in a huge space, to express the pursuit of the ancient metaphysical problems: why there is something rather than nothing. When Giacomo Tracy wanted to show the crowd, he sculptured a crowd of people who walked across the square but did not see each other. Sartre said: They walked through the square, irremediable lonely, but together.
