Objective To observe the demineralization of rat teeth with different selenium levels and to explore the relationship between selenium and caries susceptibility. Methods Twenty-two pregnant Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups according to their body weight from August 2013 to October in Jilin University School of Stomatology. From the day of conception, they were fed with no selenium (control group), low selenium (selenium content 0.015 The selenium (0.15 mg / kg selenium) and the high selenium (1.5 mg / kg selenium) were fed to the weaned piglets for 21 d after giving birth. Forty-four-day-old offspring were sacrificed and the maxillary and mandibular posterior teeth were treated with artificial caries fluid. The dental caries of rats under different levels of selenium were detected by enhanced laser photomicroscopy, laser dental caries diagnostic apparatus DIAGNOdent and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) Degree of mine. Results There were significant differences in the degree of demineralization between the four groups of rats (all P <0.05). Enhanced visual examination of the naked eye, laser dental caries diagnostic apparatus and CLSM 3 different methods were detected with increasing selenium rat teeth demineralization increased, but the low selenium group demineralization was significantly lower than the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion Selenium intake during development may affect dental caries susceptibility. High levels of selenium make the teeth more susceptible to cariogenic damage, while low levels of selenium may reduce caries susceptibility.
