一九八六年秋天,我们从广州引来“穗中红”品种,采用塑料袋营养杯在薄膜大棚内育苗,一九八七年春套种子幼龄柑桔园与荔枝园共约三千余株,结果累累,长势喜人。穗中红乃广州市农科所培育。具有岭南种、中山种及泰国红肉种三者的亲缘。一九八一年广州地区种植面积达七千余亩,占番木瓜总面积的90％以上。一般亩产在二千至二千五百公斤左右,高产者可达五千公斤。该品种植株矮壮、茎干偏细、着色黄绿。叶片较大而厚,叶色浓绿,叶端稍下垂。叶柄长85～90厘米,向上处微红,向下部淡绿。雌性果椭圆形,两性果长圆形,新鲜熟果,皮色深黄,略带微红,果肉色桔黄,
