雪莱对自然的真情及自我情感的表达离不开一个独特的视角,即他的素食主义。他不仅撰文提倡,也身体力行。这一点,在学界没有引起足够的重视。雪莱素食主义的诗化特征主要体现在他的两篇文章和六部作品里。雪莱的素食主义不仅培育了他基于灵魂不灭的世界精神,而且体现了他对宇宙苍生的生态关怀。
