Although great efforts have been made to identify the paleo-salinity of sedimentary rocks using geochemical methods, there are few achievements compared with fossil identification methods. Previous geochemical discoveries include boron content of illite, strontium content of carbonate, morphology of authigenic phosphate, cations exchangeable cations, trace element combinations, FeS 2 / FeS ratio, and the spontaneous iron minerals. All of these methods have their weaknesses for a variety of reasons. In this paper, we propose a new method that does not require complex and expensive equipment, is relatively unaffected by alteration of diagenesis, has a wide range of applicability, and is based on the basic theory of reasoning and modern sediment
