总装机容量90万千瓦的丹江口水利枢纽管理局水力发电厂,始建于1958年,是我国早期投产的大型水电厂之一,也是目前水利系统最大的发电厂。自1968年10月第一台机组发电以来,至1995年底,丹江口水力发电厂累计发供电971亿千瓦时,按不变价(每千瓦时7分9厘)计算,创发电产值76.7亿元,相当于丹江口水利枢纽工程总投资的7.6倍,取得了巨大的社会效益和经济效益。同时,作为鄂西北及豫西南电网的电压及负荷支撑中心,电厂的安全运行,也为华中电网的安全稳定,为湖北、河南两省的经济建设和人民物质文化生活水平的提高做出了应有的贡献。1990年,丹江口电厂被命名为国家二级企业;1994年被湖北省委、省政府命名为“文明单位”。
