随着航天活动的进展,为保障人在太空中安全活动,需要在现有的基础上发展新的生命保障系统。美国计划于1995年完成全部的空气密闭回路的研制,并把它们用于自由号空间站上。到21世纪,美国将完成对有限的密闭生态生命保障系统的研究。 未来的空间活动要求人在太空有较长的驻留时间和较高的航天利用率,这就对生命保障系统提出了更高的要求。供未来航天生命保障系统选择使用的方案如下:
