郭嵩焘对湖湘文化的近代化起了积极的推动作用。他积极参与了对王船山思想的挖掘,使船山思想风靡全国。他对湘军政治集团的形成,对湘系人才群的兴起、对湖湘文化的近代化变革起了重要作用。他自己的理论思想及政治实践直接构成湖湘文化近代化的重要内容。
Guo Songtao played a positive role in promoting the modernization of Huxiang culture. He actively participated in the excavation of Wang Chuanshan’s thought, making Chuanshan’s thought swept the country. His formation of Hunan’s political group and the rise of the Hunan-based talent pool played an important role in the modern transformation of Hunan’s culture. His own theoretical thought and political practice directly constitute an important part of Huxiang’s cultural modernization.
