番茄,又称番柿、西红柿、洋柿子,既是蔬菜亦是水果,可生吃又可熟食。成熟的番茄作水果生吃时,只要用温水洗净,剥去表皮即可;倘若加一些白糖腌一下再吃,则味道更佳。熟食时,可根据各人的口味加上不同的配料做成各式菜肴。例如,鲜红的番茄,金黄的鸡蛋,加上翠绿的香菜,可组成一盘色彩鲜艳的家常菜,既经济又实惠。此外,番茄还可以加工制成番茄酱、番茄汁等调味品。
