The Mid-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS), developed for the ENVISAT 1 polar orbital mission under the contract of the European Space Agency, belongs to the next generation of marine aqua-sensitive meters. It can be used to raise awareness of some important processes on our planet. An international team currently led by AEROSPATIALE is working on the development of this instrument. MERIS is a push-broom instrument that measures the Earth's radiation in 1150 km swaths using 15 programmable bands between 390 nm and 1040 nm. Its wide spatial range is achieved with five fan-shaped cameras with a 14 ° field of view. This article describes the performance verification plan for the MERIS FM instrument, some of the test equipment involved, and the actual measured performance.
