华罗庚先生说:“善于退,足够地退,退到最原始而不失去重要性的地方,是学习数学的一个诀窍。”他又说:“先足够地退到我们最容易看清楚的地方,认透了,钻深了,然后再上去。”这充分说明在以退为进的思想方法中,退是手段,进是目的,也说明了该思想方法是学习数学,解决数学问题的重要方法。因此,在解题教学中,教师要指导学生掌握以退为进的思想方法。
