和海地(Haiti)并立在圣多明谷(Santo Mingo也叫海地)岛上的多明尼加(Dominica)共和国,虽然不到我国浙江省一半的大小,却也说来很可以唤起我们的兴味.这是哥仑布在发见新大陆的一四九二年到过的地方,也是实际上他死后安葬的地方.这又算得白种人在新世界最早设立的殖民地.首都圣多明谷城还是哥仑布的兄弟巴托洛缪(Bartholomew)所奠定的.而且这岛国风景的美丽和出产的丰富,从前引起过哥仑布极大的惊异,现在仍然受着世人的称道.
