A new method is introduced, which uses the technique of image processing to acquire the environmental evaluation data of newly built or extended harbours. By pouring definite amount of colouring agent in the harbour and taking the aerial photograph about the extention of the dyed area, various environmental evaluation data can be obtained after the pictures are processed. This method has been practically applied in the extension project of Qindao harbour, and in this article, the processing method and results, as well as the possible improvements of the method have been presented.
