Objective To investigate the relationship between soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and soluble endothelial cell leukocyte adhesion molecule-1 (sELAM-1) levels and the prognosis of patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Methods The levels of sICAM-1 and sELAM-1 in serum of 64 clinical patients were determined by double antibody sandwich method. Results The levels of sICAM-1 and sELAM-1 in patients with gastrointestinal benign lesions did not increase (P>0.05), but their levels in patients with gastrointestinal cancer increased significantly (P<0.01). The content of sICAM-1 in patients with gastrointestinal cancer with hepatic metastasis was significantly higher than that in patients without liver metastasis (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference in the content of sELAM-1. (P>0.05). Conclusion The content of sICAM-1 is related to the prognosis of gastrointestinal cancer.
