性能要求的提高以及日益苛刻的成本和重量限制是最近人们重视航宇材料研究和应用的真正动力。提高性能不仅是长久以来航宇研究工作的主要目的,而且仍然是当前的关键问题。由于通货膨胀和政治上的权宜之计使得用于研究、发展和订货的经费日益缩减,因此可维修性、耐用性以及较低的使用周期成本已经成为当前研究工作的主要目标。目前政府下属和企业经营的研究机构正在下述两个重要而宽广的领域上开展的材料研究试验项目将为满足性能—成本—重量要求开辟广阔的前景:
Increasing performance requirements and increasingly stringent cost and weight limitations are the real motivators for the recent emphasis on aerospace material research and applications. Improving performance is not only the main purpose of space research for a long time, but it is still the key issue at the moment. Maintainability, durability, and lower life-cycle costs have become the main goals of current research efforts as inflation and political exigencies have led to diminishing funding for research, development and ordering. Currently, government-owned and business-run research institutes are conducting material research pilot projects in two important and broad areas that will open up vast prospects for meeting performance-cost-weight requirements:
