本文联系钱学森的特殊经历，从人类智慧的结晶─—马克思主义哲学、现代科学技术体系、对世界本质的探讨、科技革命与社会革命、世界社会形态等方面，系统地论述了钱学森哲学思想的形成和发展；文章最后归结为：钱学森在马克思主义哲学思想指导下，继承和发扬了中国古代哲学的精华──整体观，汲取现代科学技术特别是系统科学最新成果，创造性地提出了集古今中外智慧之大成的“大成智慧学”。这一新学说，也是他半个世纪以来亲身经验的总结，是他全部智慧的升华。
