“Machine Manufacturing” magazine editorial department: The “Top Ten News of the World Machinery Industry in 1982” published in your October issue last year (the last year) is very good. Before 1981, the United States ranked first in the world in the production value of machine tools. In 1982, the output value of the U.S. machine tool industry was 3.66 billion U.S. dollars, while Japan was 3.88 billion U.S. dollars. For the first time, it surpassed the United States and ranked first in the world. In Japan’s machine tool manufacturing industry, the average annual output value of each worker is 114,000 U.S. dollars, while the United States has only 53,000 U.S. dollars. Similarly, a large-sized lathe is sold in the United States at 483,900 U.S. dollars. However, Japan only sells for US$209,396. The Japanese machine tool industry has high labor productivity and low prices. It is no wonder that Japan has to surpass the United States in competition.
