1949年3月25日,晴空万里。北平西苑机场,2万多名雄壮威武的人民解放军官兵,正在等待着一个伟大的时刻。初春的北平,仍是寒意料峭。穿着刚拆洗干净棉衣的官兵们,一个个精神饱满,兴高采烈。我作为四野总部警卫团的作战参谋,能成为受检阅部队中的一员,心情非常激动。 在西苑机场等待检阅的部队,南面是摩托化步兵团3 000多人乘坐的100多辆汽车,西面是第四十一军机关及所辖一个步兵师的方阵和高射炮兵团,北面是一个地炮团和一个战车营。所有这些车辆、火炮、坦克都是美国制造的,都是“运输大队长”蒋介石奉送的“礼物”。在东面的敞口旁,站着数百名工人、农民、学生、教师、妇女等各界群众代表和各民主党派及爱国知名人士。因为离得较近,我认出了李济琛、张澜、沈钧儒等。
