Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is one of the refractory diseases in dentistry, which seriously affects the quality of life and physical and mental health of patients. Due to its many risk factors, the current pathogenesis has not yet been fully elucidated. In recent years, mental and psychological factors have drawn much attention and their impact on the mechanism of TMD is also very complicated. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) is a pain-related gene found in the changes of masticatory muscle tissue before and after psychological stress changes, suggesting that the TMD patients with mental state and COMT gene polymorphism There is a correlation. This article reviews the relationship between the occurrence and regulation of COMT gene and TMD.
