The Yellow River annually discharges 1.1 billion tons of sediment, of which 36% float in the Bohai Sea, with the remaining 64% silting in the lower reaches and estuarine delta areas. The accumulation of large amounts of sediment makes the delta advance rapidly, averaging 25km per year. A considerable part of the suspended sediment transported out of the estuary will have different impacts on the industrial and agricultural production, transportation and people’s livelihood in and around the delta itself. This paper mainly discusses the migration and seasonal differences of the Yellow River sediment into the sea based on the results of the observation and analysis of the Yellow River Mouth and its adjacent sea areas in the winter of 1983 and the summer of 1984.
