Niihama Nickel refinery studied the leaching of chlorine from anode slime to improve its handling of anode slime. Anode mud is produced from high-nickel-nickel electrolytic refining process, containing 3-5% nickel sulphide and a comparative study of the filter cake produced by the filtered anode slime desulfurization. Kinetic factors influencing leaching of chlorine gas from anode slime were determined, such as leaching temperature and particle size of anode slime. Under optimal conditions, 70-80% nickel can be recovered from anode slime or filter cake.
