Three years ago I spent my summer vacation tryingto find a new way to help persuade the students in myclass at Haverhill High School that history is not a deadsubject but a vital one valued by many people today.I got an idea of writing well-known people to solicittheir aid in teaching history. But how would I involvethe students? I decided I would let them devise aquestion, choose the recipients, and each write to hisor her own choice directly.
