[Objective] To investigate the effect of maternal serum zinc level on neonatal serum zinc and birth outcomes. [Methods] Retrospective health survey was conducted on 82 pregnant women in Houzhai Central Hospital of Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. The content of serum zinc was determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The length, Head circumference; electronic scales weighing newborn weight. [Results] The average level of zinc in maternal serum was 0.688μg / ml, the average level of serum zinc in neonatal umbilical cord blood was 0.930μg / ml, the level of serum zinc in neonates was significantly higher than that of mothers (P <0.05); the average length of newborns was 49.46cm , The average body weight of 3.19kg, the average head circumference of 33.87cm; maternal serum zinc levels within the recommended normal reference range when the newborn birth length and head circumference were higher than serum zinc levels below the recommended value of mothers born newborns (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in birth weight between the two groups (P> 0.05). No correlation was found between maternal serum zinc level and fetal umbilical cord blood zinc level (P> 0.05) Serum zinc levels were positively correlated with the length and head circumference of newborns (P <0.05). The average length, head circumference and body weight of newborns born during health care products during pregnancy were higher than those of newborns without health care products. The differences were Statistical significance (P <0.05). [Conclusion] The maternal serum zinc level can affect the neonatal birth outcome. Maintaining balanced and comprehensive nutrition during pregnancy is the key factor to ensure the good birth outcome of neonates.
