在浙江民间观音文学中,观音形象可概括为三点:第一神通广大,能降妖伏魔,也胜过其他神仙;第二扶贫济弱,乐于帮助弱小之人;第三类于常人,很多行为与世俗之人相近。从浙江民间观音文学可以看出,浙江观音信仰的世俗化倾向表现为佛教元素的减少与世俗元素的增多以及与普陀山宗教景观相结合。佛教传播与世俗化是不可分割的,必须在其中寻找平衡,学派才能够有序而正常的发展。
