For nearly a decade, the U.S. tennis has been dominated by a handful of celebrities, from Sampras, Agassi and Zhang Depei to Roddick, from Capriati and Davenport to the Williams sisters, who have almost become American tennis Synonymous. Players who are in the same age as these superstars are certainly unlucky, and may have played only a supporting role throughout their career. At last weekend’s North American Masters in March, these “Blue Collar” players finally had a collective outbreak. Compared with superstars, each breakthrough they made was the result of double their efforts and was especially noteworthy.
