Objective To investigate the expression and value of Yes-related protein and HELQ protein in primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods Fifty patients with HCC diagnosed from December 2011 to December 2014 were selected for histological examination and their normal tissue adjacent to the tumor more than 5 cm from the edge of the tumor were examined by immunohistochemistry to detect the expression of Yes-related protein, HELQ protein Horizontal expression. All cases were followed up for 2 years. The levels of Yes-related protein and HELQ protein, clinical pathological parameters and survival were analyzed. Results The positive rate of Yes-related protein expression in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal tissues (80.00% vs 10.00%, P <0.01). The positive expression rate of HELQ protein in cancer tissues was significantly lower than that in normal tissues (32.00% vs 84.00%, P < 0.01). The expression of Yes-related protein and HELQ protein were correlated with tumor diameter, clinical stage, degree of differentiation, envelope invasion and serum AFP level (P <0.05, P <0.01). There were 27 cases (54.00%) with 2-year survival in 50 cases. The positive rate of Yes protein expression in survivors was significantly lower than that in the deceased patients (66.67% vs95.65%, P <0.05). The positive rate of HELQ protein expression was significantly higher than that of the deceased patients (88.89% vs 43.48%, P <0.01). Conclusions The expression of Yes-related protein and HELQ protein may be related to the occurrence and development of HCC. High expression of Yes-related protein and low expression of HELQ protein may lead to poor prognosis of patients.
