There have been some articles and legends about Beria’s arrest but none of them is piecemeal and magical. Colonel Ivan Grigoriyev Zub, director of the Political Department of the Moscow Air Defense Forces, was one of the six-member arrest team. He participated in the arrest, detention and trial proceedings. When Beria’s case ended, his defense minister, Bulgunin, had strictly enjoined them to keep their secrets and promised to recommend them the title of heroes of the Soviet Union. Until recently, Zubu had disclosed to the Red Star newspaper reporter in the Soviet Union more detailed stories he had gone through.
