According to the United States Industrial Liaison Company (Princeton, NJ), by 1990, sales of optoelectronic components worldwide will reach 66 billion U.S. dollars. The company says that optoelectronic components are system components that collect, process, store, or display data. The total amount of inorganic polymers is between $2.0 billion and $2.5 billion, while specialty chemicals and organic polymers total $0.3-3.5 billion. Chemicals grow at least 25% per year and include photoconductors, organic dyes, fluorescent acrylates, and liquid crystal polymers. Signal processing is the subject of basic research.
