In recent years, China’s investment and trade in Africa have increased substantially. Between 1950 and 2010, China-Africa trade volume increased by an average of 43.5% annually. In 2011, China-Africa trade volume reached 160 billion U.S. dollars and China has become Africa’s largest trading partner. What are the motives for China’s investment in Africa and what impact China has on Africa? These two issues attract much attention. The answer to the first question is quite clear. In order to continue industrialization, China needs to obtain raw materials from Africa, especially oil and gas resources and mineral resources. In addition, the huge market in Africa has given China an indication of its economic potential. As for what kind of impact China has on Africa, it is hard to put it in a nutshell. Critics argue that China’s investment in Africa is aimed at neo-colonialism, yet this assertion is China’s principle of non-interference in politics
