Objective To analyze the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and gastric carcinogenesis and to understand the influence of age, gender, lifestyle and other factors on the expression of Epstein-Barr virus. Methods Sixty-eight patients with gastric cancer who undergone gastric resection in our hospital from July 2010 to April 2012 were collected as research samples. PCR amplification of EBV DNA was performed on cancer tissues and adjacent tissues respectively. The positive rates of EBV in two groups were detected and compared. The positive rates of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in different gender, age, differentiation degree of different tumors and different living habits were also analyzed. Results In the selected 68 pairs of specimens, Epstein-Barr virus DNA was detected in 17 cases of gastric cancer, the positive rate was 25.0%. The positive rate of EB virus in paracancerous tissues was 6%, and the positive rate was 8.8% The positive rate of Epstein-Barr virus was significantly different (χ2 = 6.332, P <0.05). There were no significant differences in the EBV positive rates of gastric cancer between patients of different ages and different degrees of differentiation, while EBV positive rates of gastric cancer tissues of different sexes were significantly different (P <0.05). EBV positive The rate was higher than non-smoking and non-drinking patients (P <0.05). Conclusion EBV infection has some correlation with the occurrence of gastric cancer. The expression of EBV in gastric cancer is also related to gender, smoking and alcohol consumption.
