高锰钢是一种含锰量为10~14%、锰碳比大于或等于10的合金钢。这种钢经过水韧处理后,具有良好的耐磨性能和抗冲击韧性。由于在受冲击载荷的过程中,表面会形成硬化层,因此,这种合金钢是制造铁路辙岔的理想材料。但是,随着我国铁路运输事业的蓬勃发展,现行生产的高锰钢辙岔已不能适应运输量大、车轴重、车速快和车次频繁的要求。经过对辙岔使用现场的调查和实物考核,发现现行生产的高锰钢辙岔,由于内在质量上存在疏松、缩孔,以及粗大的柱状品等缺陷,致使在磨耗到限以前,大量辙岔就提前破损了。
