The high strength and modulus of the boron / aluminum composite, combined with low density, the ability to meet design requirements by alternating stiffeners and their low cost makes it attractive for aircraft engine blades . Much work has been done on the processing of high quality boron / aluminum blades that can be used in flight tests. This article describes this process; this process begins with the following work: twin wire wrapping of boron / aluminum tape, layer formation and assembly, compaction by hot pressing, finishing and non-destructive testing of blades.
