“Sea of algae” is the first part of “Jane Eyre”, which is the interpretation and rewriting of Bertha, a negative figure in this classic. At home and abroad most of the reasons for Antoinette madness attributed to her in the patriarchal society and ethnic oppression, overwhelmed, lost self and go crazy, she is crazy. Antoinette really crazy? I believe that the book Antoinette is not crazy, her “crazy” is only a manifestation of the power of male discourse. Foucault (1999) points out that there is no absolute boundary between madness and rationality. Both madness and non-madness are the products of the social power relations. Rochester, when he discovered that Antoinette violated his mainstream values and ideological standards, identified her as a madwoman and used all kinds of vicious means to make her think Antoinette was crazy. Therefore, Antoinette in the novel is not really crazy, her “madness ” is a manifestation of their own will and desire in the context of male discourse in patriarchal society.
