黄河中游多沙粗沙区内部侵蚀环境存在着区域差异，为使治理方略的制定做到有的放矢，必须划分亚区。在阐明亚区划分的目的及原则后，首先按地面组成物质将多沙粗沙区划分为３ 个一级亚区：以易侵蚀岩为主的侵蚀亚区、沙盖黄土侵蚀亚区和黄土侵蚀亚区，再按土壤侵蚀强度进行二级亚区划分，共分出１４ 个二级亚区（ 小区） 。另外，还对各亚区的自然地理及侵蚀特征进行了简要说明，为实施各具特色的治理方略创造了条件
